The South London group will be holding various events throughout 2008 to help raise awareness and funds for the charity, while meanwhile offering an opportunity for people affected by MND to meet others in a similar situation.

  • 'Firewalk' fundraising event where one walks on blazing hot coal, is taking place on the 16th of January 2010 in Northamptom. Information will be provided soon

  • Potential MND south London group charity collection at London Victoria Station, subject to availability in the build up to Christmas

  • Charlton Athletic football club charitable collection for MND south london group at Charlton's football ground on the 14th of November 2009. Collection will be held before the match starts, if you want to get involved please contact our volunteering and fundraising co-ordinater. CLICK HERE

  • A fund raising swing band concert to be held at All Saints Church in putney. For more information about the adresses/location, directions to the church, parking and ticket prices  CLICK HERE

  • A fund raising concert to be held at All Saints Church, Rosendale Road, London, SE21 8LN on Saturday 4th April 2009 at 19:30 hrs. The concert is 'Requiem and music by Mozart & Bruckner will also feature. Tickets cost £5.00.

  • 18/04/2009: The South London Group will be seeing London from aboveon the London Eye. Free tickets and transport for people living withMND plus a carer. Contact Rachel (rachelkamm@gmail.com / 07729 116346)if you'd like to join us.

  •  26/04/2009: We're collecting in Bermondsey at the Flora LondonMarathon. If you have any time to spare that morning, please get intouch with Lorna and come to help us raise much needed funds for theGroup (Lorna.Taylor@iop.kcl.ac.uk / 07980522101).

  • 19/07/2009: WEST LONDON BRANCH'S ANNUAL BUSHY PARK WALK TO D’FEET

The annual Walk has been scheduled for Sunday,19th July in Bushy Park,

just north of Hampton Court Palace in SW London. It will open at 10am

for registration. The distance is 3 miles. For those who are newcomers,

there is a wheelchair friendly area at the end of the walk so anyone who

would like to participate is welcome. So that we can cater appropriately,

Previous Events in 2008/2009

Past events for MND south London group included:
  • MND south London group recieved £1000! for the Bushy Park walk.
  • 07/03/2009: The South London Group supported Charlton AFC at theWatford match and collected a cheque for £3,000 on the pitch at halftime - this money is crucial for the Group to continue to supportpeople living with MND in South London."
  • 16 November 2008 - update on research into MND in Roehampton by Lorna Taylor (South London Group committee member, currently studying for a PhD at Kings, London). This was a popular event, with people living with MND, partners, association visitors and committee members all coming to hear about this year's research developments ... and a taste of what's coming up next year.
  • 27 September 2008 - Fiona Macrae, Health Correspondent of the Daily Mail, speaking on "MND and health reporting in the media" in Dulwich. A chance to a hear a journalist's perspective on how stories of people living with MND and research are covered by the press.
  • 10 August 2008 - afternoon tea in the Nightingale Cafe in Balham, with four people living with MND meeting with friends and family to share experiences and tell bad jokes.
  • 13 April 2008 - collection at the Flora London Marathon raising over £1,000.
  • 29 March 2008 - trip on the London Eye, for people living with MND and their family and friends.
  • 8 March 2008 - collection at Chalton Athletic Football Club raising over £700.

The London Marathon

The annual London marathon was held on April 13th. This year a magnificent 118 runners took part in the marathon to raise money for the MND association. The final amount is expected to be a staggering £170,000 plus, so credit goes to the brave runners representing MNDA. Well Done!

Walk to D'Feat MND

On Sunday June 18th the South London Group had it's first annual  Walk to d'Feet MND, setting off from Parliament Square and ending up at the Tower of London via 6 of London's famous bridges.
